06/30/07 - Pretty Lake - IN
Last night's show was a great success and a perfect end to an excellent era of the band!  We played an acoustic set with highlights like Don't Ease Me In, and a surprise Shakedown Street that really got you all shakin' your bones.

We really were honored to be playing with all the great talent at the Pretty Lake Acoustic Music Festival.  I can't think of a better setting for this performance.  Thanks to Jim Ellsworth for inviting us to come out.

We are really going to miss Jim, Janelle and Troy.  Godspeed to all of you on your future journeys.  You will truly be missed!

Please stay tuned to the website as we make personnel changes and do some site updates.  There is a ton of stuff coming so keep coming on back for new music and video downloads, mp3s, YouTube vids, new merch and of course, new musicians.

Until we reach furthur.....Michael

06/28/07 - PERSONNEL CHANGES
The band is undergoing some major changes after this Saturday's PLAMF show.  Troy, Jim & Janelle have all decided to leave the band to pursue a myriad of other interests.  Join with me in wishing them well on their future endeavors!!!!  We will ALL miss their spirit and talents in the band.   So, come out to PLAMF to catch the current Groove one last time!  Details will be forthcoming as to where we are headed lest we promise, Grateful Groove WILL continue "FURTHUR!"

Hope to see you Saturday!
Michael

05/11/07 - O'sullivan's - Fort Wayne, IN
Hey now!  What an awesome time we had at O's Friday!  Despite some initial set-up and audio issues, we ended up starting right on schedule and rockin' the pub until 2am.

Many people came out including all the O's regulars.  Thanks for enjoying what we do.  We are hoping to come back soon.

Stay tuned for upcoming shows in an around the area.  We will be at a couple festivals this summer so come out and enjoy all your favorite bands, musicians, and friendly folk.  Until next time....

05/05/07 - The Loft - Fort Wayne, IN
Great time had by all.  We were truly fortunate to have Duane Eby and John Minton sitting in with us for the entire night!  Both Duane and John stewed some kickin' solos and jams for us.  Also, We welcomed Kevin Moran to the stage to blow some harp on Easy Wind.  Fantastic Kevin!

We are saddened to have to leave The Loft, but wish the would-be owners all the best of success.  Not sure what will become of the space but I know everyone who ever utilized that space will carry fond memories!

There will be a DVD of this show available in the future.  I'll keep you all posted.  Thanks again Jen Hancock for your energy!

See you all next Friday at O's.

03/24/07 - The Loft - Fort Wayne, IN
Another great night at The Loft!  More and more new faces all the time.  We love that.  Keep on coming!!!!!

A few new tunes tonight.  Jim busted out Rosalie McFall with a nice follow up of Brokedown Palace.  Troy then came out with On The Road Again and The Race Is On.  Second set saw a fair attempt at Looks Like Rain.

Thanks for helping keep our living room nice and tidy.  Kudos to those whom helped pick up the cigarette butts out side and thanks to all for actually using the butt receptacle.

Sadly, we announce our next show May 5, 2007 to be the closing of The Loft.  The building is being vacated over the summer and it gets far too hot for us, let alone visitors.  Don't fret, we will find a new home by fall.  So, come one, come all to the closing of The Loft May 5.  Let's make it a memorable night by being good to each other and rockin' out with us until the wee hours of the morning.  It could just be a long strange trip!!!!

Look for more Groove shows outdoors this summer and in new locations around the globe.  We're beefing up for some hot shows at a venue near you.

SPECIAL THANKS TO JEN for sending me a boat load of photos of some of our winter shows.  The rest of you now have to catch up!  See you on the 5th!

02/17/07 - The Loft - Fort Wayne, IN
RECORD SETTING CROWD!
Saturday's show saw a record setting crowd in attendance.  Many, many friends new and old.  Thanks for coming out to see us!

We busted out a few new and old tunes.  Although a rough start on Beat It On Down, we seemed to get into the groove before long.  Happened upon a nice Drums/Space in the middle of Sampson.  That was pretty sweet!

Hope to see all of you and 10 new friends each at our March 24 show!!!  Come one, come all.  Also, we are playing at O'Sullivans pub on May 11 so mark your calendars now.  Until next time campers....

01/06/07 - The Loft - Fort Wayne, IN

We had a great time playing for all of you.  Lots of great highlights.  Kickin' flute solo on Terrapin.  How about those drummers, Dan, Troy & Lynn keepin' the beat real?  Damn boys.  What a great time.  Larry's Little Red Rooster was a hot item too for sure.

PLEASE!  If anyone has pictures from last night, please send them to me!

We appreciate everyone helping to keep our home clean and tidy.  If you pick up after yourselves, we are more inclined to keep on keepin' on.  Good job.

11/11/06 4D's Bar & Grill
We had a great time in the Fort Saturday night at 4D's.  A new venue for us, we were met with very receptive staff and were hosted by some of the Fort's very best.  Thanks to the friendly staff for making our set-up, performance, and tear-down a pleasant experience.

Thanks to everyone that made it out to jam with us.  It was great so many of you trekked way out north to join us.

Everyone was in good form, especially Janelle on that kick-butt flute solo.  If you weren't there to catch that, you missed out.

We hope you all will be able to make to our Loft show on November 25.  We've hear rumors that our MIA drummer Troy McKee is making his return to us that night so come on out a give T a huge welcome back.  We've missed you brother!

Happy turkey day to all of you and we'll see on Saturday the 25th.

10/21/06 Halloween Bash
Our Halloween Bash was a kickin' good time this year.  We had a smaller crowd but the costumes, music, and company were excellent.  Thanks to everyone who made it out join in the festivities.  Rita the Riveter was the band's favorite.  Congrats!

09/09/06 Rusted Root Campground

Saturday was a great show!  Our last outdoor show of the year saw a fair number of new faces and some familiar old ones.  Thanks to everyone who made it out despite some early afternoon showers.  The weather held off for the night and was quite pleasant for the duration.

Thanks to Rich Litchfield for hosting us this summer!  Rich you're the best!

Next month we are making a road trip to Toledo, Ohio.  We hope some of  you will join us for the trip.

Lots of stuff coming gang.  Hope to see you around.

08/12/2006 Grass Roots Music Festival
The second night of GRMF was a astral good time.  Beautiful people, beautiful surroundings...what could make it better?  Triplicity gave us an excellent show playing many of our John Prine favorites and others.  Thanks to Triplicity and Tony & Evan for opening for us this weekend.

Swimming, sun and fun were abound!  A great day to just hang out and relax.  Thanks to Rich Litchfield for making the weekend such a relaxed, safe, and fun event.  We couldn't have done it without your help.

The music was hot tonight.  Our drummers and percussionists even got a chance to show their stuff during a very dark and dirty drums/space.  Many great moments tonight.  Gosh we love this music!!!!

Thanks to all the fans that made the trip for the weekend!  We love you all and you are the reason for us keeping on!  Thanks for the great vibes, positive attitudes, and generally being "good" people!   See you next time on September 9 at Rusted Root for the closing of the outdoor season!

Peace!

08/11/2006 Grass Roots Music Festival
Give a big Wahoo for the first night of GRMF 06!  The joint was jumpin, goin' round and round!  The weather was perfect.  Sunny skies all day with a nice breeze.  The mosquitoes were a bit on the vicious side tonight but after the first set, it cooled off enough to keep them at bay.  Tony and Evan had a great opening set.  Their jams were clean and groovin!  Thanks guys!

It was nice to see all the familiar faces tonight at Rusted Root.  You all sure know how to make us feel welcome.  Rockin good time tonight despite being stuck outside of Cromwell with the Albion blues again!  You kept us going strong and true!  The campfire jammin was fun too!  See you all tomorrow night.

07/28/06 JAMZ Nightclub, Anderson, IN
Despite some minor tech issues, we had a great night at JAMZ nightclub.  Mike, you've got a pretty neat place there!  The setup was swank and reminded me of House of Blues a bit.  Plenty of room to get comfortable, even with two drummers.  We pulled out a few classics and some surprises.  Thanks to everyone who made it out.

Next week is GRASS ROOTS 11!  Can you believe it has been 11 years?  We sure hope you all will come out to Rusted Root Campground and enjoy the weekend with us, Tony & Friend, and Triplicity.  It will surely be an exciting, great music filled weekend.  Details are at left.  Just click on the old crow!

The set list will be updated shortly.  Please check back, as well as some additions to the music page for your listening pleasure.

See you next week campers!

06/02/06-GOD SPEED DEAR BROTHER!
On Friday June 2, 2006 our dear brother Vince Welnick left this earth of his own accord.  It personally saddens me to lose yet another friend to us all.  A wonderful man, a fantastic musician and a personal hero, Vince will be missed greatly by us all.  Our thoughts go out to his wife, children and family.

This is a pic of Vince playing at Dear Creek in Noblesville, IN June 21, 2003.

We had a great show down in B-Town at Uncle Fester's.  What a treat to play in a theatre setting with some great folks and fans in attendance.  We were very fortunate to have Lynn Nicholson sitting in with us on drums in Troy's absence.  Way to go Lynn!  You kept the beat trucking right along for a night of great music and merriment.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!  Saturday's show was a great time.  We were glad to be back at Beatnik's after a long hiatus.  Thanks to Trace for providing us the cool vibe for the evening and shelter from the storm.  The snow didn't hinder us from heating things up though!  In fact, our first set was so HOT that we blew a fuse 30 seconds from the end of the set.  lol  What a climax!  It was great to see all the familiar faces.  A big welcome to our new friends from out east.  We hope to see you on our home turf on the 17th.  Bring all your friends.

A special THANK YOU to Jeff Lowe for his liquid light show.  It was definitely psychedelic and VERY cool!

The first set was rather exciting, followed by a stellar second set, full of energy and good jams.  Nice versions of Loser (sung beautifully by Janelle) and super harmonies on Deal by everyone.

The crowd was hot and boogieing all night long.  Thanks to all our faithful fans and those of you whom came out for the first time.  Be sure to make the trek to Marion next Saturday for a night of great fun an merriment at Beatnik's.  It would be great to see you all there.  Now that we're all back to work after a long weekend I'll bid you good day until next time fellow star gazers!

Whoopee and yahooie!  What a time we had in B-Town!  I may not go as far as to say off-the-hook, but, the bait was wiggling pretty good!

For our first trip to B-Town we had a great showing.  Many, many new faces and a few folks who came down with us.  It was great to have you all there to support us.

Thanks a lot to Ryan and Zach for opening for us.  You both were great.

Player's Pub, a great place!  Warm atmosphere, great food and drink....all in all a fantastic place.

We threw out a few surprises for all of you on Saturday.  Larry's rendition of Maggie's Farm was a great first set closer and kept everyone around to what would happen next.  Way to go Larry.  Second set saw a great Loser and fantastic Stop That Train which really got the crowd moving.  We were told there had never been that many people at Player's Pub and I'm sure never that many people shaking their booties.  Of course I have to mention that Shakedown was slick and wiggly too.  Our encore of Cumberland Blues was definitely SMOKIN'!

A special thanks to Arwen, Brian, and Suzie for providing a place for us to rest our tired bones after the show; much needed AND appreciated.

That's all for this road update!  We certainly hope to see you at the Loft on the 26th of November.  Bring all your friends and celebrate the Thanksgiving Season with us in Dead style!

08/12-13/05 Grass Roots Music Festival 2005
Hey now, Hey now!  Grass Roots 2005 was huge success for us.  We had a phenomenal turnout despite the occasional inclement weather and a good time was had by all I think.

Friday night produced some great music with nice treats like Sugaree and Samson & Delilah which were great crowd pleasers.  We managed to stave off the rain until after the second set and were swooned off to bed by our faithful fans with a great unison rendition of And We Bid You Goodnight.  I think that set the mood for weekend.  Gosh we sure do love you all.

Saturday was a bit more relaxed as we had clear blue skies by the time we took the stage.  Lots of bright stars and several meteors filled the night sky.  It only seemed fitting to offer Dark Star to those down front.  Troy did an awesome job on Greatest Story Ever Told, as well, a newer song for the band.

Thanks to all the fans and friends that were able to share this special weekend with us!  YOU made the 10th year the best yet.

A special thanks to all who helped us out with set-up and tear-down over the weekend and to Doug and Rose Watkins and family for their valiant efforts this year.  It wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable without the good help.  I trust everyone made it home safely and we hope you all will be able to make it to Rusted Root in September.

Stay tuned for some new goodies to appear on the merchandise page and at our shows.  Also I bet there will be some tasty new grooves coming your way as well.

Peace!

08/06/05 August 6, 2005 - Beatnik's
Whooooooowie!  Saturday was smokin'!  Things got REALLY heated up this weekend down in Marion, IN.  Not only was the music HOT HOT HOT, but the temp was balmy and scorchin'.  Thanks to all the folks that made it down from up north, and, to all the gals and chaps that were there celebrating their 10th high school reunion from Marion.  We sure appreciate the good feedback.  It was nice to see some old familiar faces that hadn't made the trip from up north in a while too.

We busted out a couple new jams for the dedicated crowd with stellar performances by Jim and Troy.  I think everyone enjoyed!  Janelle also gave a sweet performance herself during Row Jimmy and I can't help but be moved by her singing on that one!

Special thanks to Jeff Lowe and Travis McKee for running sound and helping out Saturday.  We sounded GREAT and we heard many compliments about our overall balance and sound.  We couldn't have done it without you both.

I hope you all can make it down for Grassroots this coming weekend!  It is going to be our big blowout of the year and our 10th annual festival.  Come one, come all!!!

07/09/05 July 5, 2005 Chain-o-Lakes
We had a groovy night jamming with all of you at Chain-o-Lakes State Park Saturday night!  It was super cool that so many folks came to join in the fun.  Too many new faces to count, plus, a large gathering of some folks from Russia joined in the fun.  "Happy Birthday again to Garlina!"

The weather was more than perfect and the bugs didn't come to attack until after we were done playing.  We played some great classics; Althea, Shakedown, GDTRFB, Men Smart Women Smart, and Dark Hollow just to name a few.  A special thanks to Troy for embodying the Kiebler Elf for the night :)!  Be sure to check out some new pics on our pic page from Chain-O-Lakes.

We are looking forward to returning to the Chain again real soon.  Hope you are all able to make it out next Saturday as we lighten things up a bit a head out to the One World  Cafe for an evening of "almost" acoustic jams.  Until then fans.......

06/25/05 June 25, 2005 P.L.A.M.F.
One more Saturday night....and a fantastic one it was!  We had a really GREAT time at P.L.A.M.F. (Pretty Lake Acoustic Music Festival).  A big, wet, kiss and THANK YOU to Jim Ellsworth for inviting us to be part of the festival and a Happy Birthday to him as well.  Also, a big THANK YOU to all the other musicians that played before us: Bob Kyser, Cephas Sutton, Triplicity, Jill Mozena, Ellsworth & Halferty, Jeff Lipman and Aron Weinbrenner, Mike Conley and Gwendra Turney, Possom Trot, and Duane Eby!  You were all awesome.

All in all, it was a pretty good show considering we hadn't played together for nearly 6 weeks.  Good jams and good people.  It was nice to see all the fans and friends making the trek to Pretty Lake to see us and the other fine musicians.  A big HOWDY to our new friends from Garret and all our old faithfuls. You are a driving force in helping us create this great music with you.  Keep on dancing!!!!!  See you at Chain-O-Lakes!

05/21/05 May 21, 2005 RUSTED ROOT
The weather was fantastic, the food scrumptious, the music sweet,  and the company top drawer.  A great time was had by ALL at Rusted Root Campground Saturday night.  Rich, you have a VERY NICE thing going on there!  It was great to see all the new faces from South Bend / Elkhart area!  You too Blue!  Glad you all could make the trip down to see us.  A special thanks to Doug and Rose Watkins for sharing the good eats.

We were honored to be the first to play on the new stage Saturday.  Lots of room and the sound was good from our vantage point.  Kudos to Tony Gibson for our satiating sound.  We busted out some tunes we haven't played out in awhile.  Larry's Maggie's Farm was especially poignant given our location for the evening.  Way to go Larry!  Lots of good jams and our musical communication was nearing telepathic levels.  We hope you all had as much fun as we did.  Hope to see you all at the PLAMF (Pretty Lake Acoustic Music Festival) June 25th.  Details coming soon!  Let the music play!

05/07/05 May 7, 2005 BEATNIK'S
Saturday night saw the band in rare form.  this had to be one of the rockin'est shows to date.  I think we all had some pent up aggressions to work out or something, or, we were just cutting lose after not having played together for nearly 6 weeks.  Either way, we kept the evening moving forward at a rocket's pace.  Shwooo! It was hot, hot, hot!!!

Lots of new faces in the crowd.  Thanks for coming out to see us!!!!  We love to see all the new people, young and old(er), coming to celebrate this great music with us.  Lots of dancing in the streets and such.  Keep it up!

Please come and join us for our first outdoor show of the Spring tour at Rusted Root Campground.  (Details at left).  Hope you all are able to make it out and shake your tail feathers!  School is out!!!  Summer is on it's way!!!!

Peace!

04/26/05 REST IN PEACE SCOTT LARNED

Dark Star Orchestra keyboardist and co-founder Scott Larned passed away of a heart attack on April 24th, 2005 in Fairfax, Virginia while on tour with the band.
Scott was a leader, co-founder and, for years, the band's manager helping guide this thing through some tricky waters in the early goings. His swirling Hammond organ and glassy piano trills captured the eighties-era sound backed up by a most effective growling Mydland-esque voice. He will be missed both on and off the stage.

04/09/05 APRIL 9, 2005 ONE WORLD CAFE
Several new faces at the Three River's Co-Op, One World Cafe show Saturday night.  A warm and special thanks to David Hawkins for calling out our set-list for the evening. Great to see you out and about Dave!!!  We had a few winners of our now infamous trivia game.  Congratulations to all of the winners who took home a copy of our latest Demo CD!!  Be sure to come out to our next show at Beatnik's in Marion on May 7th to have YOUR chance to take home a FABULOUS prize!!!  The rest of April sees some of us vacationing out of town so.....see you next month all!

Peace & Love!
